R.L. Burnside – Poor Black Mattie (1984)
RL Burnside had a crazy life. He grew down the street from Mississippi Fred McDowell and learned guitar from him as a kid. He eventually moved between Mississippi, Chicago and Tennessee lookin for work. While returning to the delta, he allegedly killed a man during a craps game and was incarcerated at Parchman Farm Penitentiary. He was released shortly after and worked odd jobs over the next 45 years while playing the guitar part time. His fame grew and in 1991, at the age of 65, he signed w Fat Possum Records and remained with the label until his death.
We have to do a biopic movie on this guy at some point.
