It saddens us announce today that Lil Peep has passed away.
Only 21, he was found unresponsive in his sleep on his tour bus. He was slated to perform at a club called The Rock in Tuscan, Arizona. When his manager went to wake him he was unresponsive. First responders tried vigorously to save him, but to no avail.
Detectives then found evidence on his bus that suggested that Peep had died from an overdose of Xanax.
“After speaking with people on scene and going into the tour bus, police said that there was evidence of a possible drug overdose, most likely from Xanax,” Sgt. Pete Dugan said in a phone interview Thursday with CNN.
“Obviously, we’re not medical examiners, so there will be an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death,” Dugan went on to say, adding that there was “no sign of any kind of foul play” and that police are “treating it as a suspicious death case, most likely from an overdose.”
Rapper Vice Versa first called giving S3R the news of Peep’s death. Visibly distraught, he let us know what he knew in the situation before getting off the phone.
Lil Peep’s death has a huge impact on indie music culture. Most of his buzz and notoriety was gained without a major label. Building his fanbase from Youtube and Soundcloud, Peep is testament to what is possible when you have an independent voice, and speak from your unique perspective, regardless, period.
He will be missed.
